I would like to update to 4.0.1 but i dont have the original sim card. I am in kathmandu. what are my options? i am sure when the firmware is updated the phone is in locked state. Before jailbreaking and unlocking i have to activate it right? well.. if that’s so any pointers on what to do in kathmandu’s context? i looked up in the net and see that using phonebook sim card does the trick.. but can we find this in here??

Hi Mitr,
Please follow the post at http://www.iphonenepal.com/?p=171, and you will be able to get your iPhone back to old firmware. This is only supported if you had backed up your SHSH of 4.0.1, if not nothing much can be done!

Try updating to IOS 4.0.1 and it will work. Worked for all my phones here.
Just do not forget to clear cache, and cookies for Safari.
Settings>Safari and look at the bottom of that screen.

This doesn’t work in version 4.0
