“SHAtter”: iOS Jailbreak Exploit for all iDevices for Life!

A very great news for all the iDevice owners (Iphone 3G, 3GS, $), iPad, iTouch devices.

SHAtter is expected the name of the exploit found by for jailbreaking iOS 4.1. Shatter is also rumored to be tethered (you need to connect to computer after every reboot :-( – still a speculation ) Jailbreak which jailbreaks all existing iOS idevices forever including iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. Shatter will be a low-level bootrom exploit which will allow the use of unsigned code execution in order to jailbreak all iDevices for life even the iPhone 4 and the latest iPod Touch 4G. This is not publicly available though, but the iPhone Dev Team and the Chronic Team is working hard to release the exploits.

So sit tight, something is coming out soon.

How to update from 4.0.x to 4.1 WITHOUT updating your baseband – NO JAILBREAK YET, COMING SOON

Its here friends, as the baseband unlock for 4.1 is not released yet, if you want to update your 4.0.x without updating your baseband (and thus preserving the unlock), you can follow instructions posted HERE.

Proceed at your own risk. If you don’t have SHSH saved, do not even try!

BUT, BUT , BUT Keep in mind that you currently won’t be able to jailbreak (and therefore unlock) your iPhone 4 /3GS on iOS 4.1, even though, you preserved the original baseband.

Good news it that, there has been reports that the bootrom exploit will be available soon.

Secure your jailbroken iPhones

Secure your iDevices with PDF patch from Cydia.

Saurik, the creator of Cydia has created an actual patch which will completely close the hole (that was actually used to install the jailbreak) on all iOS based devices, including the first-gen iPhone and iPod touch which were left out in cold by Apple, making you completely safe running jailbroken iOS 4.0.1 / iOS 3.2.1.

It is available right now by the name of “PDF Patch” in Cydia. Install if before someone else exploits your iPhone.

Again, do NOT upgrade to the latest iOS 4.0.2 released by Apple, yesterday. If you do so, your Jailbreak and Unlock will be lost.

New update for iPhone released today! DO NOT UPDATE

Apple released a fix to the PDF exploit which was used to Jailbreak the iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches (Jailbreakme 2.0). If you want to have your unlocks reamin intact (that is use your phones with NTC) DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT upgrade! Jailbreak and Unlock will be lost, for how long, i can’t say!

* If you are already jailbroken, we suggest installing the “PDF Fix” patch from Cydia to save your iPhone from being hacked!

Don not Update to (upcoming) New iPhone firmware if you have a Jailbroken Iphone!

CNET reported that the exploit used to install Jailbreakme 2.0 app and hence the carrier unlock, has been already taken care of in the next update of iOS for all iOS devices.
So folks, do not make a mistake of upgrading iTunes, and installing the new release of iOS coming out soon.
We will let you know when it is safe.

You have been warned! Now you are responsible if you “brick” your iPhone. By the way did you use TinyUmbrella to back up your iPhone blobs? You better do!

Skype issue resolved!

In the jailbroken iPhones, skype would loose its multitasking ability. Probably you also had the same problem. I use skype a lot, and this had been quite annoying.
But now its solved. Open Cydia and click on “changes” icon and install all the changes (Specially the mobile Substrate) and this will be taken care of. While at the same screen you might as well install the new ultrasn0w :)

iPhone Dev-Team has released the carrier unlocking tool called Ultrasn0w.
It will enable us to use iPhone4 is Nepal GSM network. A simple install through Cydia will do the job!
In fact iPhones are useless without carrier unlock in Nepal. So the aforementioned iPhone4 (in my previous post) will have this unlock already installed!
